Some of my fellow writers for The Mighty are posting #whyiwrite. It’s interesting to read the stories. I can’t help chiming in with my story, so here goes.
i can’t remember how young I was when I really caught on to the magic of words. A couple of friends and I wrote plays based on shows like “The Rockford Files” and “Starsky and Hutch.” (Yes, we were three girls, but we had fun anyway!)
In later years, I started writing poems and stories. I don’t claim they were very good, but I was trying to figure out what magic came together with simple words and sentences made people want to read them.
When I got to the point where I spent more and more time at home, I decided that if I wanted to be a creative activist, my words could speak for me in the corners of the world I can’t reach. I talk and write about things that matter. I talk about people who matter, and I’m thankful that God or Spirit or whoever gives me the power to speak at all.
