#365poems–a little addition

I’m going to do something a little different today. Before I decided to do #365poems this year, I had joined a group to follow daily prompts and write poetry every day with my favorite poet Beth Morey at She of the Wild. I actually bought the book the people in the challenge are using–The Daily Poet by Martha Silano and Kelli Agodon. So what I think I’ll actually be doing is a mix of answering prompts from The Daily Poet and consulting a book I already have called Poetry as Spiritual Practice. The two books together could be a challenge, so we’ll see. The posts won’t all be about poetry, but I’ll still post the poems each day.

God created the earth
He placed Adam and Eve
together in the Garden of Eden
He gave them free will.
What if Eve hadn’t eaten that apple?
What if she hadn’t learned the shame of being naked?
What if she hadn’t passed the apple to Adam?
Would natural childbirth be painless?
What if painlessness led to more children being born?
Eve’s tears and shame
would have turned into
joy and laughter.
The peace we still seek today
might already have come.
No guns, no hunger, no fear.
We would see clearly
Instead of through a dark glass
Filled with pain.

I'm a Southern girl at heart who wants to build a community of people who believe they can change the world with words like "love" and "freedom" when they become more than words, but actions in our work and our daily lives.
