Fingers on Keys

Patti Digh told me if I didn’t know what to write, sit with my fingers on my keys. Something has usually come for me with that advice, so I need to get back to just that.

It really is hard to overcome fatigue long enough to get myself to sit here and do this. If you have bad days, don’t beat yourself up for them. It’s okay to take a day or two off, and you will know when it’s time to go back. Even if you don’t have a message, something inside you gently reminds you, “fingers on keys.” Butt in seat. Same thing. It’s the showing up that will get you where you want to go. Even if you don’t know where it is.

I’m in that in-between space right now. Even if I don’t know where I’m going, I know that doing this will get me there. I’ll try to remember that each night as that voice whispers to me.
