Wider Horizons

I started to write a message about how we celebrate the holidays, but I find myself not ready to go there yet. So I think I want to look ahead to the new year and deal with the holidays later. Christmas never quite meets the hype somehow, and I expect a dip in my mood between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. It happens that way pretty much every year, so at least it doesn’t catch me off guard.

I’ve been mostly housebound for a long time, not because my physical condition keeps me from going out. One thing I’m trying to plan for next year is ways to shake up and change my life. I hope that by the end of 2017, I am able to move into a new place right in the heart of downtown Asheville, NC.  I’ve been waiting for the application to come for a few weeks, and I’m not putting all my eggs in one basket by only applying to one place, but this is in almost the perfect location. It’s across the street from our local independent bookstore, which hosts several author readings/signings a month–actually more like several a week. There are book clubs held there. The main library is just up the street, and not only can I check books, cd’s, and dvd’s out there, they have a used book store and show movies in the auditorium. First Fridays are called Frugal Fridays, and books are sold for one quarter. Twenty-five cents, y’all!

Living within the Asheville city limits will make it possible for me to use ADA paratransit, and several churches I’ve wanted to visit are very close to where I’d be living.

This is quite a ways in the future, and I have a lot of things to figure out about how I’ll be able to get the things I need. I just wanted to dream a bit tonight about what it will be like.
